No more roosters

Well, our rooster had gotten to the age where they were getting aggressive, at least Rocky (the white one). The deciding factor was when he tried to spur a 2 year old who was visiting. so Steve said we might as well kill Apollo (the black one) too. So Steve and I put both of them in the shop on Thursday night. Friday morning Steve released Apollo, for good behavior I guess, and we waited for Matt to show up to help with the deed.

I thought for a moment that Rocky just might drag Matt into the cage and thump him. But Matt's superior fighting skill won out.

We need to get a bigger hatchet, and one that is sharp.

Matt drains the blood before we begin plucking. And might I state, that Rocky was the easiest and fastest plucking chicken we've had.

Rocky was ready for Matt to take home quickly.

Later Friday night I realized that the sore that Apollo had on his behind, had been infested with maggots. I had to secure him while I cleaned it out. By Saturday morning there were more maggots and his whole end was red and swollen. I tried pushing out the pus, etc. and was successful. But alas, the internal damage done by the infestation was too much and Apollo died on the operating room table. Such is life on the farm.

The kids came over later Saturday and Emmy and Reed played with Little Brown while I sewed Abby her blanket on my new machine.

I wanted to spend @$300 and while I was at JoAnns they were having a sale. They had two machines on sale for $300 so I chose the one that was $500 originally over the one that was $400 originally.

Abby took to her new blanket.

Sunday both Abby and Emmy were rocking the bump-it.
